My View

Wumpus’s soon to be released 28-minute masterpiece ‘BIKE PORN’’ is a musical treat, but not quite a dinner. The only reason I say this is because after listening to this very short album you end up wanting more. Mostly an instrumental artistic flaunt ‘BIKE PORN’ does contain some growls, yips and whistles. Though I tend to like to compare local band’s music to other bands I can only think of two groups that even have a similiar sound; The classic electronic band CAN and New York’s DRUMS AND TUBA. But don’t go by what I say – what the fuck do I know, the only instrument I play is my blues harp . . . VERY HORRIBLY!

Local producer, Jon Hegg filled the recording with lots of loops, bends and doo-hickies which make it whimsical & creepy wrapped all together in a brown paper bag. Another thing Wumpus has accomplished with ‘BIKE PORN’ is a theme. Originally written as a movie soundtrack, that was probably a good idea. I go by the motto, “If you can’t listen to the whole album in one sitting – go sell it to a pawn shop.” Wumpus has accomplished continuity with ‘BIKE PORN’ and that’s half the battle of making a great album. This isn’t a break open a bottle of Wild Turkey and cry all night record, but you may be able to gun 3 Blue Ribbons and feel pretty fiesty once it is over with.

PRO’S:
Great Travel Music
Great I-Pod Music
Locally Produced
Continuity
Easy to absorb and enjoy

CON’S:
Too Short

I recently sent this email to Councilor Jamison and CC’d Councilor Staggers. I can’t wait for the response!

Mr. Jamison-

I don’t live in your district, but I have to respond to some comments you
recently made in a television interview. You felt it was ‘FAIR’ to tax cable
because it is a luxury. I couldn’t agree more that we should tax luxury items.
Here is a list of luxury items I would love to see taxed MORE in Sioux Falls:

– Automobiles over $60,000 that are not used for business purposes
– Motorcycles
– Boats
– RV’s
– Half-million dollor homes and up
– Event tickets (Arena, Pavilion)
– Increase Hotel/Motel room tax

I think taxing these items would be more fair then taxing cable. Cable is
sometimes the ONLY luxury people can afford, not to mention it is not always a
luxury, for instance I got it as part of a package with my internet that I use
for my home business, it would have been the same price without cable.

We need to start moving away from regressive taxes and start moving towards
luxury taxes.

Thank you for your consideration and your public service,

Scott L. Ehrisman

I’ll be damn if I’m going to send a paper ‘FREE’ cartoons – simply for F’ing exposure. but my friend Larry Aerosmith sent me these cartoons. They look like good freebies.

The Argus Leader says they are looking for political cartoonists. I guess they are tired of paying syndicated cartoonists. I sent the editorial page editor these questions:

Chuck-

I see you are accepting guest political cartoons. I have a few questions;

1) How much does it pay per cartoon?

2) Does the artist retain copyright?

3) Will the cartoon be edited before it goes to press?

Your answers would be appreciated.

Scott L. Ehrisman

 ANSWER:

Scott,

We envision treating these as we do letters to the editor. No pay. I don’t know how copyright works. Editing? Hadn’t thought about it.

Chuck

Ryan, who is originally from Sioux City and now presides in New York will be making a guest appearance this weekend sitting in with Dakota Jazz Collective.

Kisor plays with the Lincoln Center’s Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Wynton Marsalis. Wynton personally hired Ryan and speaks highly of his trumpet playing.

This is a VERY rare opportunity to see talent like this. Ryan has played the TOE before with his brother Justin (who is a regular at the TOE and still lives in SC). Justin also plays at the same level as Ryan as they both went to Julliard together.

Don’t miss this show
