I’ve been doing some research on photos of old jazz and blues guys for paintings. I’m a big fan of Hawkins. Tom Waits once said that Hawkins was his main voice influence, and if you ever have listened to BONE MACHINE or RAIN DOGS, you can here it. CCR had a hit with the Hawkins song, “I put a spell on you” and a gazillion people since have covered it. Izzy Stradlin from G n’ R does a cover of “Up jumped the Devil” that is pretty rocking too.
Not sure if I’m going to paint him, but I sure like this picture, I wonder if he has the “Constipation Blues” in this photo?

I DID not draw this cartoon, just to clarify.
In fact I try to stay away from legal things that concern murders and children, I guess I just don’t think that stuff is funny.
BUT, making fun of local politicians, always puts a smile on my face, even if it does belong in a VOMIT bucket.

LETTER TO EDITOR:
Editorial twisted outcome
By Rick A. Vallery
Fort Pierre
Published: June 13, 2007
I am writing to respond to the editorial and cartoon in the June 5 Argus Leader.
First, whoever wrote this editorial (they must be too ashamed to have their name associated with it) really did a very good job of twisting.
My point is this: What is missing in your editorial that you would not know about because you (whoever you are) were not there is the concern and determination of each and every legislator in attendance at that meeting to do a review of the page program. No matter what was said when the vote was taken, the vote was unanimous. There will be a review of the page program.
Second, the cartoon that accompanied the editorial was horrible. The cartoon
belongs in the vomit bucket aboard a U.S. Navy ship in the middle of an ocean
during a typhoon. The cartoon is negative, insensitive, insulting, in poor taste,
reveals an agenda and paints the page program with one broad stroke of a brush
as bad. How unfortunate.
